inLove - 冒險 Realm
I love finding new music, especially when it’s Chinese music because I don’t have a lot of opportunities to be exposed to good Chinese music where I live. It’s not the most culturally diverse place on earth. The other day I found a great album by a Hong Kong-based group called inLove. The album is called “冒險 Realm”(in English “Risk Realm”).
The tracks are all pretty mellow and soothing, but none are boring. The group makes good use of horns, bongo drums, violins, and other instruments for effect. There are also some pleasant vocal harmonies (although nothing spectacularly different from anything else I’ve heard) and a couple of instrumental tracks. Over all, it’s a great album. And there’s a plus for you language geeks and sinophiles out there: the album’s vocals are in both Mandarin and Cantonese, so you don’t have to pick one or the other to enjoy good music. You can have them both on one album.
